The Department of Civil Engineering is one of the fastest growing Departments running tertiary programmes. The Department has firmly taken its roots, springing up in a monumental stature than ever anticipated. The Department since inception has shown a lot of potential to become one of the resource centres in the training of personnel relevant in the field of Construction, Environmental and Water Resources Management.
The mission of the Civil Engineering Department is to provide high quality, career-focused education and training at the tertiary level with emphasis on practical training, experience and entrepreneurial skills to students to meet the middle and higher level manpower needs of the country.
The objectives of the Department are to;
- Offer programmes customized to meet the needs of industries within its catchment area, the country and beyond.
- Provide opportunity for the development of research in construction, Water, Environmental Sanitation, Geothenical and Transportation in the country and beyond.
- Develop management methods and hands on training that are peculiar to Ghana and other developing countries.
- Become a world class resource centre in the area of training local artisans, and consultancy work to industries within its catchment.

The Department plans to expand the tertiary programmes by introducing Higher National Diploma (HND) Water Supply and Resource management and Structural Engineering Technician Courses in the next three academic years.
A training Centre for Waste Management and Environmental Sanitation will also be jointly established by the Department of Civil Engineering and Zoom lion Ghana Limited in Sunyani in the near future.
The Department currently has Ninety-One (91) students in both HND and Pre-HND programmes. Bachelor of Technology (B-Tech) in Civil Engineering has also been introduced and admissions are on-going. The Department has also introduced HND in Material Science Technology.
