The Department of Electrical/Electronic Engineering started in 1967 as the Electrical Installation Department of the then Sunyani Technical Institute. It was upgraded to its present status of Electrical/Electronic Engineering Department in 1997 when Sunyani Technical Institute became Sunyani Polytechnic and now Sunyani Technical University. The Department is headed by Mr. Danlard Iddrisu.

The Electrical Engineering department is the oldest department and has train several individuals who are working in the various sectors including the Power industry,Telecom industry, Mining, Manufacturing, Automobile. The available options are Power, Telecom, Biomedical and Computer Engineering

Research and Collaboration

The Department has a collaboration with the Fachhochschule Dormund University of Appileid Science and Arts on Research and Training

The Department also has access to the GRIDCo Substation in Sunyani for field training of Students

The Department has a collaboration with the Sunyani Regional Hospital for training of Student with interest in Biomedical Equipment

The Department Organizes training including Energy Commission's certification exams for Artisans in Sunyani and It's Environs

The Department recommends students to various indutries and companies in the Brong Ahafo Regon


The Deparment has a well resourced ELectronics, Telecoms, Power Systems Laboratory

The Deparment also has an efficient computer Laboratory where several simulations are done

The Deparment also has access to the schools Library and E-Library resources
