The Ghana Oil Company Limited (GOIL) has agreed to support the Sunyani Technical University (STU) with GH.C 20,000.00 each year within the next five years to develop the entrepreneurial skills of students.

The Head of Administration and Human Resources of GOIL, Cyril Opon, on behalf of the company has presented a cheque for GH.C 20,000.00 to the Vice-Chancellor of STU at a brief ceremony in Sunyani to kick-start the process.

This collaboration followed a proposal by the STU to GOIL for support from the GOIL Entrepreneurship Fund to develop the entrepreneurial skills of students.

Specifically the assistance from GOIL will go into the Business and Entrepreneurship Development Centre, Exposure and Capacity building of students and Mentorship platform for nascent student entrepreneurs and seasoned entrepreneurs, business professionals and relevant state agencies.

Under the programme, periodic Entrepreneurship clinics and industrial tours would be organized for students while the existing students’ entrepreneurship clubs such as Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) and Entrepreneurship Action in Us (NACTUS) through mentorship programs would also receive support.

“The whole idea is that we want to help institutions ... to develop and also make sure that when the students are coming out, their talents would not be wasted,” Mr. Cyril Opon said.

The Vice-Chancellor of STU, Prof. Ing. Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah, on his part, expressed his satisfaction about the collaboration and assured that every effort would be made to ensure the judicious use of the funds.

Other officials of GOIL who were present at the ceremony were Mr. Kwabena Agyekum and Mr. Stephen Ernest Asare, the Zonal Manager of the company responsible for the Ashanti and the Brong Ahafo Regions and Robert Kyere, the Public Relations Manager of GOIL.

Also present were the Board Chairman of the STU Governing Council, Ing. Dr. Kwame Agyeman Boakye; the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the university, Dr. J.S Korantwi-Barimah; the Registrar, Mr. Samuel A. Obour; Mr. Job Manu, Deputy Registrar (Human Resources); Prince N.B Menzo, Director of Finance and Dr. Jones Lewis Arthur, Director of the International Relations and Institutional Linkage Directorate.
