The Computer Science Students Association (COMPSSA), in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science at Sunyani Technical University (STU), has commissioned a Digital Billboard, a 98-inch Smart Board, and Robotic Kits to enhance teaching, learning, and technological innovation within the University.
The commissioning ceremony, held on Friday, July 10, 2026, was attended by the Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Evans Zoya Kpamma, the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology, Prof. Noble Amoako Sarkodie, the Director of Works, the Director of Human Resource, the Director of Finance, the University Chaplain, faculty deans, lecturers, students, and other members of the University community.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Evans Zoya Kpamma commended the Department and the Students Association for the remarkable achievement, describing the project as a significant milestone for both the Department and the University.
He noted that the initiative demonstrates the University's commitment to innovation, practical education, and the integration of modern technology into teaching and learning.
Head of the Department of Computer Science, Prof. Ben, disclosed that the Department, with support from the Students Association, successfully procured a 1.5 × 2-metre digital billboard, a 98-inch interactive smart board, and ten robotic kits, at a total cost of over GH¢76,000.
According to him, the digital billboard is the first of its kind at Sunyani Technical University and represents a major investment in improving academic delivery, digital communication, and practical skills training. He expressed pride in the Department's contribution to the University's development and reaffirmed its commitment to advancing technology-driven education.
The President of the Computer Science Students Association (COMPSSA) also expressed appreciation to students, staff, and stakeholders whose support made the project possible. He noted that student leadership is about creating lasting impact and leaving a legacy that future generations can build upon.
The newly commissioned digital billboard is expected to serve as a platform for academic communication, research dissemination, and innovation, while the smart board and robotic kits will strengthen practical instruction and hands-on learning in computing and robotics.
The project forms part of the Department's broader vision to position Sunyani Technical University as a leader in applied computing, digital innovation, and emerging technologies.
Addressing participants, Prof. Kpamma reaffirmed Management's commitment to supporting initiatives that promote innovation and experiential learning, noting that such investments prepare students to meet the demands of the rapidly evolving digital economy.
The commissioning of the facilities marks another important step in STU's mission to provide industry-relevant education while fostering creativity, research, and technological advancement among its students.
