Management Holds Maiden Meeting with Alumni (SUTECH, SPOLY & STU)

Ing. Prof. Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah, the Vice-Chancellor of the Sunyani Technical University has observed that maintaining good relationship with Alumni over time is crucial to the success of higher educational institutions.

This is because Alumni play many valuable roles, such as helping to build and grow an institution’s brand through word-of-mouth marketing while positive posts on social media could create a buzz and increase admission rates.

According to him, proud alumni often serve as powerful ambassadors for their institution's brand and speak glowingly of their Alma-Mata.

“Alumni are usually nostalgic about their alma mater and always itch for opportunities to return to campus. For this reason, I appeal to the leadership and all Alumni of STU to look back to collaborate with the Management of the University to have a comprehensive plan to give a face-lift to the Sunyani Technical University Campus as we look forward to celebrating the 55th Anniversary of the University come next year, 2022.”

Ing. Prof. Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah was addressing the maiden meeting of STU alumni and management held over the weekend to, among others, bring past students on board in the development of the institution.

The meeting, which was held on zoom, attracted several thousands of STU, which began in 1967 as Sunyani Technical Institute before it was upgraded to a Polytechnic in 1997, and now a university.

“It is indeed refreshing to have this unique opportunity to welcome you back to your prestigious alma mater as distinguished Alumni Association Members of Sunyani Technical University which actually includes, all past students of Sunyani Technical Institute (SUTEC), Sunyani Polytechnic (SPOLY) and Sunyani Technical University (STU)”, the Vice-Chancellor said.

He said the University has created an Alumni Secretariat on campus to manage all Alumni affairs, adding that “your concerns, contributions and feedbacks are always welcome.”

“The University belongs to you as Alumni Association and hence, let us build it together so that we can succeed together. Let us all try to contribute our quota for the smooth implementation of the STU development plans for a productive and sustainable outcome.”

About STU and its Alumni

The Sunyani Technical University which started as Sunyani Technical Institute (SUTECH) in 1967 to offer Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to Middle School Leavers, was later in 1997 upgraded to a Polytechnic by the Polytechnics Law 1992 (PNDCL 321), which was subsequently repealed by the Polytechnics Act 2007 (Act 745), to provide training for the Middle-Level manpower needs of the country.

Recently in 2016, following the promulgation of the Technical Universities Act, 2016 (Act 922 as amended), the Polytechnic was converted into Technical University with a new mandate to provide higher education in Engineering, Science and Technology based disciplines, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Applied Arts and related disciplines.
