An Orientation training session for members of the reconstituted Governing Council of the Sunyani Technical University (STU) has taken place in Sunyani.
It was aimed at equipping the members with the requisite information, knowledge and skills to make meaningful contributions towards the growth and development of STU.
Welcoming the participants to the training session, the Chairman of STU Governing Council, Ing. Dr. Kwame Agyemang Boakye admonished them to respect the Oath of Secrecy and the Oath of Office, and treat confidential information as such.
He said it was important for Council Members to keep themselves abreast of the University’s mission and vision as well as the Technical Universities Act, 2016, ACT 922 as amended.
He encouraged members of the Council to familiarize themselves with the work of the previous council and learn to share experiences with each other, adding that “we don’t have to start from scratch, there should be some continuity.”
Some of the topics treated during the orientation session were “Understanding the University System of Governance” and “Council in the Context of Higher Education.”
A former Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Prof. Kwasi Kwafo Adarkwa, and Dr Paul Effah were among the key resource persons for the programme.
Two members who were absent during the inauguration of the Council in Accra last month, were inducted into office by the Chairman of the Governing Council prior to the beginning of proceedings.
END.
