Prof Zoya Kpamma now Acting Pro-Vice Chancellor of STU

The Governing Council of Sunyani Technical University has appointed Architect Professor Evans Zoya Kpamma as the Acting Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University. His appointment takes effect from 1st January to 31st August 2026, during which period he will complete the remaining tenure of the outgoing Pro-Vice Chancellor. A substantive appointment is expected to be made thereafter.

The position became vacant following the resignation of Professor Justice Solomon Korantwi-Barimah, who has since been appointed Ghana’s Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Prior to this appointment, Arch. Prof. Zoya Kpamma served as the Dean of the Faculty of Built Environment and Applied Art.

In a statement signed by the Registrar of the University, Mr. Samuel Ankama Obour, the Council explained that Prof. Zoya Kpamma was selected due to his status as the most senior dean of the institution.

Profile

Prof Evans Zoya Kpamma is a professional architect and an Associate Professor of Building Technology and Design Management. He has over 20 years of experience as an academic and a professional architect. His academic experience is based on several years of teaching and researching into various aspects of the built environment. His role as Head of Department of Building Technology, and Dean of Faculty of Built Environment and Applied Arts, at the Sunyani Technical University, has given him over 10 years of experience in academic administration and leadership.

Prof. Kpamma has academic and professional qualifications in Architecture and Construction Management. He holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture, a postgraduate diploma in architecture, a master’s degree in construction management and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in construction management from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He received a post-graduate certificate in ‘Teaching and Learning in Higher Education’ from Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands under a NUFFIC scholarship. Prof. Kpamma has also participated in various training programmes in academic leadership and administration, such as the DAAD DIES Ghana National Multiplication Training.

Life in STU

At Sunyani Technical University (STU), he has taught various courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, such as Research Methods, Building Services, Construction Technology, Space Planning and Management, Psychology of Space and Behavioural Science, Fundamentals of Design, and Building Drawing. Prof. Kpamma has led and contributed to the development of curricula for various programmes at the Department of Building Technology and the Department of Architecture and Real Estate.  He has also led and co-developed successful proposals for grants to undertake infrastructure development for research and training at the Sunyani Technical University.

His research work, which is largely focused on building performance and usability, lean construction, design management and user-centered design, has been published in various reputable journals such as Building and Environment (Elsevier), Architectural Engineering and Design Management (Tylor & Francis); Engineering, Construction and Architectural Management (Emerald); and Journal of Professional Issues in Engineering Education and Practice (ASCE). He has also participated in several local and international conferences and seminars in various countries across the world, such as Ghana, Brazil, South Africa, Greece, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

Prof. Kpamma has served as a member on various boards and committees at the Sunyani Technical University, such as the finance committee, appointments and promotions board, development committee, executive committee, and academic board.  He has also chaired several standing and ad hoc committees/boards, such as the Faculty of Built Environment and Applied Arts board, the research ethics policy committee, the appointments and promotions criteria committee, the statutes review committee, and the student support fund committee.

Life outside STU

Outside STU, Prof. Kpamma has provided professional and academic services to various organisations. He has served as an external examiner for several master’s and PhD thesis at the Department of Construction Technology and Management, KNUST. Additionally, He has served on numerous Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) programme accreditation panels. He is also a reviewer for several journals in the built environment field and currently serves on the editorial board of Building Research and Information (BRI), a top-tier journal in the built environment space. As a professional architect, he has designed and supervised the construction of various educational, healthcare, industrial, religious and residential buildings across Ghana. Prof Kpamma is a member of the Ghana Institute of Architects (GIA).
