STU Defeats UENR in a Friendly Match

The staff of Sunyani Technical University (STU), last Friday defeated the staff of the University Energy and Natural Resources (UENR 2 – 1 in a friendly match as part of activities to commemorate the latter’s 10th Anniversary Celebrations.

Team UENR has therefore vowed to overturn the score line in the return encounter, which is expected to be hosted by STU later this year as part of activities to climax STU @ 55 Anniversary.

Team STU took a lead under the first minute of the game after it kicked off in a whirlwind fashion. Various attempts by Team UENR to level the score were all thwarted by the goalie of STU, Richard Baffour who was outstanding in the first half of the game.

The attacking trio of Team UENR continued bombarding the goal area of STU. Their incessant pressure yielded dividends when a defensive blunder by the visitors led to a 20th-minute equalizer. The game then swung from one end to the other until the end of the first half.

On resumption of the second half, STU started similarly to the commencement of the game, by pouring more men into an attack. In a flurry of attacks, right-winger Felix Obeng shot STU into the lead once again. All efforts by UENR to claw back proved futile as the game ended 2 -1 in favour of the visitors

Despite the loss, the staff of UENR wined and dined with their counterparts from STU. This provided the staff of the two institutions of higher learning with the opportunity to interact among themselves.

Before the commencement of the game, Prof. John Kofi Mensah Kuwornu, the Acting Pro-Vice Chancellor of UENR wished both teams well and prayed for his team to carry the day.

The Coach of Team STU, Stephen Yeboah, who is also the Deputy Registrar, Human Resources reiterated that the match was a non-competitive one and was meant to further deepen the already existing cordial relationship between the two universities.

The Vice-Chancellor of STU, Ing. Prof. Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah; the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Justice Solomon Korantwi-Barimah; the Registrar, Mr Samuel Ankama Obour; the Finance Officer, Dr. Prince Menzo and Dickson Kyere-Duah, Head of Public Relations were in attendance to support Team STU.
