On April 1, 2026, a meeting was held at Sunyani Technical University (STU) between the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Sunyani East, Hon. Vincent Antwi Agyei, and the University’s Management Board to discuss the completion of the Astroturf project ahead of the GHATUSA 2027 Games.
The Vice-Chancellor of STU, Prof. Ing. Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah, opened the meeting by warmly welcoming the MCE and his team for honouring the University’s invitation. He also introduced members of the Management Board and the sports management representatives present.
Prof. Adinkrah-Appiah stated that arrangements toward hosting the GHATUSA 2027 Games are far advanced and noted that STU is privileged to host the event. He explained that the University is seeking support from government, through the local authorities, to complete the construction of an Astroturf pitch initiated under a previous administration. He emphasized that the incomplete project poses a significant challenge as the University prepares for the Games.
He indicated that the purpose of inviting the MCE and his team was to inspect the project site and discuss practical steps to ensure timely progress and completion of the facility.
In his response, Hon. Vincent Antwi Agyei expressed appreciation for the invitation and commended the University for its proactive approach. He introduced members of his team, including Hon. Abdul Razack, the Municipal Engineer, and Mr. Samuel, the Municipal Planning Officer. He explained that the delay in construction was due to financial procedures, noting that expenditures are processed in phases and require formal documentation and approvals at various levels of local government.
Following a tour of the construction site, the MCE assured the University of prompt action to address the situation and facilitate the continuation of the project.
