Sunyani Technical University (STU) last night hosted a warm send-off dinner in honour of Professor Samuel Oluwatobi Oluwafemi, marking the successful conclusion of his academic visit to Ghana and the University.
The dinner was attended by the Vice-Chancellor, Deans, and some members of faculty, creating an atmosphere of collegiality and appreciation. In his remarks, Prof. Oluwafemi shared his overall experience in Ghana, expressing deep gratitude for the hospitality and warm reception extended to him by the STU community throughout his stay.
As a mark of appreciation for his invaluable contributions to research and knowledge sharing, Prof. Oluwafemi was presented with a citation. The Vice-Chancellor also presented him with a special gift, a Premium Authentic Northern Smock (Batakari) with cap, symbolising Ghanaian culture and STU’s appreciation for academic partnership.
To formally kick-start a long-term collaboration, the Vice-Chancellor announced the formation of a Nanotechnology Collaboration Committee, to be chaired by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Samuel Wiafe. The committee will work closely with Prof. Oluwafemi and the University of Johannesburg to explore practical applications of nanotechnology, particularly in addressing water pollution caused by illegal mining (galamsey), as well as other critical environmental and technological challenges.
The evening reaffirmed STU’s commitment to impactful research, international collaboration, and solutions that address national development priorities.
